A fifth-grade student brought a butcher knife to school Monday morning, police said.

According to reports, officials at Inwood Elementary School called police at 9 a.m. to report that the knife was discovered inside the student's book binder. Other students had seen the knife and told the principal about it, police said.

Police said the knife has an 8-inch blade and a wooden handle.

The 11-year-old boy was taken to the Polk County Juvenile Assessment Center. Police are in the process of interviewing the student to determine why he brought the knife to school.

No one was injured. Class was not disrupted.
