Detectives are seeking the public's help in locating two men they say took a man's French bulldog at gunpoint early Saturday.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, 27-year-old Derek McComber was walking "Bueller" near the 8300 block of Country Square Court in the Town 'N Country part of Tampa when a gray 1990s Honda Civic pulled alongside him.

McComber, who was walking toward Pinehurst Drive just after midnight, told deputies one of the two men in the car got out and asked, "What kind of dog is that?"

After McComber said it was a French bulldog, the man said, "Well, I'm taking it," detectives said.

McComber said he noticed the man was pointing a handgun in his direction, so he did not try to resist. The suspect scooped up Bueller while backing away and returned to the Honda Civic. The car then sped away, authorities said.

Detectives described the both suspects as white males wearing black hoodies and dark pants. Only one was armed.

The dog is described as being mostly black with a white belly and white paws, weighing 25 pounds and wearing a green collar with no tags.
