Nik Wallenda, of the world famous Flying Wallendas, plans to walk a tightrope high over U.S. 41 in Sarasota Jan. 29.

The Sarasota City Commission approved the stunt at its last meeting.

The Florida Department of Transportation must still close traffic and allow the wire over the Tamiami Trail for the 10:30 a.m. event.

Wallenda holds a $20 million insurance policy, claiming it covers mental distress if anyone witnesses him falling.

Wallenda's walk will be 180 feet in the air from the Unconditional Surrender statue to the top of the Marina Tower building.

He plans to cross the Grand Canyon this summer without a tether.
