More than 20,000 pounds of a chemical were spilled on U.S. 301 Saturday night after a semi-truck driver turned too quickly, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, troopers said the truck overturned east of Apollo Beach about 8:30 p.m., spilling about a quarter of the 87,800 pounds of ammonium nitrate it was carrying.

The driver, 28-year-old Orlando Soto of Ruskin, turned to go west on Big Bend Road but went too fast, troopers said. The truck flipped on its side.

The crash closed two lanes of southbound U.S. 301.

Soto was cited for failure to use due care.
