A conference next month will promote urban farming in Pinellas County.

Pinellas County Extension’s Urban Farming Small-to-Large will cover everything from raising chickens in the back yard to starting an urban farming business.

The conference is Saturday, Feb. 9, and has separate morning and afternoon sessions.

The morning session, aimed at homeowners and commercial farmers, will cover an overview of hydroponic systems, chickens and integrated pest management. The afternoon schedule will focus on commercial urban farming and will cover business planning, cost analysis, cottage industry regulations, marketing and protected agriculture practices.

Cost is $7.50 for the morning or afternoon sessions or $12 for the full day.
