The fire that killed a grandmother and grandson in a Lakeland home in October was started accidentally.

According to Bay News 9's partner newspaper the Ledger, the Oct. 29 fire on Tradewinds Avenue was started by a cigarette butt left in the home's carport.

The Lakeland Fire Department completed its investigation and determined the fire was started by cigarette butts left in the carport. A family member said a propane tank and grill were kept in the carport, which may have contributed to the fire.

A family of six lived in the home, and two of the family members were killed.

Justin Guglielmino, 8, and his grandmother, Conne L. Tamarit, 67, died in the fire.

Terri Guglielmino, 44, Justin's mother, spent more than a month at Tampa General Hospital after the fire.
