Family and friends said they came out to remember a woman who was taken way too soon.

Dozens of people showed up in front of Brianna Anderson’s apartment Thursday night, a day after she was shot and killed.

"Speak the word and you will be helped," one woman began to sing.

They came together in song and in tears with the flickering of candles.

On the sidewalk in front of her apartment where Anderson was shot, the lights spelled out, “RIP, Brianna.”

"She called me the day before she died and she was supposed to call me back and she never called me back," said Delicia Forte, a long-time friend.

"She just one of my best friends and I just hate the fact that I didn't get to say goodbye," said Panisha Mcneely, another long-time friend.

Friends said they would make sure that Anderson’s new baby and her 3-year-old son would never forget their mother.

"They're gonna' remember their momma,” said Forte.  “We're going to keep her memory alive.  They are going to know who she is."

Anderson left a legacy behind not only for her own children but for other children in the neighborhood.

"I feel bad but I know she's in a better place now," said Aniya Blue, a 9-year-old girl.

As the vigil ended, the words from the song heard earlier could still be heard down West Chestnut Street, "Encourage yourself in the Lord."
