A Plant City man is accused of firing gunshots following a road rage incident involving his father earlier this week.

James H. Reynolds Jr., 24, is facing charges of shooting into an occupied vehicle in connection with the incident, which happened Thursday on U.S. 301.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the road rage incident took place between James Gritzinger, 22, and James Reynolds Sr., 68, while both men were driving south on U.S. 301 near Rhodine Road.

An earlier report indicated that Gritzinger told deputies Reynolds had tried to run him off the road.

Deputies said Reynolds Sr. called his son, Reynolds Jr., and told him about the situation and that they were about to start driving east on Rhodine Road.

About a mile east of U.S. 301, the two men got out of their vehicles and began fighting on the side of the road, deputies said. Gritzinger then got back into his vehicle and continued driving toward the intersection of Balm Riverview and Rhodine roads.

That's where deputies said Reynolds Jr. was waiting for him, standing on the southwest corner of the intersection.

As Gritzinger came to a stop at the stop sign, Reynolds Jr. opened fire with a laser-sight equipped pistol, hitting the front passenger side door three times and the passenger side of the windshield once, deputies said.

Gritzinger, who was not injured, sped off.

Deputies were not able to locate Reynolds Jr. at the time of the incident. A warrant was later issued for his arrest.

On Friday evening, Reynolds Jr. and his attorney met with detectives at the Orient Road Jail, where he was taken into custody.
