A man was stunned by a Taser after police said he became violent in a motel lobby in Pasco County.

The incident happened late Tuesday morning in the lobby of the River Side Inn on U.S. 19 in New Port Richey.

Police said a man walking down the sidewalk punched another man who just happened to be passing by at the same time. The victim called police for help.

Meanwhile, police said the man's erratic behavior continued as he walked down the highway and into the lobby of the motel.

Once inside, police said the man became outraged and began shouting that he knew country music star Carrie Underwood. When he wouldn't calm down, an officer stunned him with a Taser.

Officials said the man lost consciousness and was rushed to the hospital.

Stephanie Buono, who was staying at the motel, described the scene in the lobby just after police arrived.

"I saw the guy, he didn't have his shirt on, yelling about Carrie Underwood, his mom, and he was walking backwards and the officer was walking towards him and he was screaming and yelling,"

The case is being handled by both the Port Richey and New Port Richey police departments. They have yet to release the man's name or his condition.
