Police said a Largo man was intoxicated on cocaine, synthetic drugs and Four Loko when he walked into a CVS store early Monday morning and repeatedly stabbed an employee.

Lorenzo Guerrero, 23, was arrested shortly after midnight on charges of attempted murder.

Police said Guerrero walked into the store at the corner of Belcher Road and East Bay Drive at 12:08 a.m. while wearing a mask and started stabbing the employee in an "unprovoked ambush-style attack."

Police say this violent attack lasted about 15 seconds and Guerrero did not rob the store.

"He doesn't take anything. There's no indication that he was there for any purpose. So, we don't know why he was going in there masked,” said Largo Police Lt. Stephen Slaughter.

Guerrero then fled the store on foot. Police found his abandoned vehicle in the CVS parking lot, then found him a short while later and arrested him.

The clerk, 68-year-old Donald McKay, was treated at Bayfront Medical Center for multiple stab wounds. He was released earlier Monday.

Investigators said they determined Guerrero was on cocaine, synthetic drugs and Four Loko, which is a drink containing alcohol. Guerrero could not give police an explanation for the attack, the report said.

Police say Guerrero also confessed to stabbing the clerk.

"We don't have any indication of what he was doing. Why he was doing it. During the interview with detectives he did not provide any explanation,” said Lt. Slaughter.

Guerrero is being held in the Pinellas County Jail without a bond. He'll make his first appearance before a judge Tuesday.

According to an arrest affidavit, Guerrero's mom and brother identified him on the surveillance video by his clothing and distinctive jewelry.
