The Bay area cool off is about to speed up.

A huge area of low pressure near the Great Lakes will push a cold front southward through our state, bringing colder air for the weekend ahead.

According to Bay News 9 Meteorologist Brian McClure, the cold air will work its way south beginning Friday but the coldest air will be felt by Sunday.

"We will see probably some of the coldest air of the season," McClure said.

Temperatures Thursday will peak in the low 70s before the shift begins Friday.

Conditions will turn breezy Friday with high temperatures peaking in the mid 60s. The weekend will be even colder with highs only reaching the low 60s Saturday and the mid-50s on Sunday.

Low temperatures during the weekend will be in the mid to low 40s with colder conditions in the northern part of the Bay area.

By early Monday, the Bay area could see lows in the mid to upper 30s with some areas of frost.

A gradual warm up will begin Tuesday.
