Family members and friends gathered Tuesday night to remember the man killed when a sinkhole opened up underneath his Seffner home.

Jeff Bush died February 28 when the hole opened and swallowed his entire bedroom. Bush's body was never recovered.

A memorial service was held at 7 p.m. at Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon.

His aunt said it's painful every time she drives past the house.

Inside the church, two of Jeff's hats and a t-shirt sat near the podium.

The family said those are the only items of his they were able to recover before the house was demolished.

His brother said he's relying on memories to get him through.

During the service, Jeff was described as a "good guy" who loved fishing, playing video games and cooking.

Bush's family released doves prior to his memorial.

"It's just hard to understand," said Leland "Buddy" Wicker, who owned the Faithway Drive home that eventually had to be destroyed. "We just have to keep our heads up and keep on going."

In lieu of flowers, the family asked for donations to the Sinkhole Family Relief Fund. Checks should be made payable to the Brandon Foundation and sent to P.O. Box 3197, Brandon, FL 33509, Attn: Sinkhole Family Relief.
