Pinellas Park Police arrested high school teacher Jonathan Dunn Thursday on multiple charges stemming from an investigation into an illegal sexual relationship with a female student.

Dunn, a 28-year-old math teacher at Pinellas Park High School, resigned from his position on Thursday.

The School District removed him from his classroom on March 15 after receiving reports alleging the inappropriate communication. The District says Dunn chose to resign before being fired.

The School Resource Officer assigned to the school said he received a tip of inappropriate contact between a male teacher and a female student.

The relationship allegedly occurred over three weeks in December of 2011 and included sexual activity both on and off campus.

At the time of the alleged relationship, the student was 16. She has since turned 18. Dunn is also accused of having sexually explicit online conversations with the student during the relationship.

Dunn faces three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and one count of transmission of material harmful to a minor. He is in the Pinellas County jail on $70,000 bond.

Police continue to investigate.

The state's Office of Professional Practices will determine whether to revoke his teaching certificate.

Dunn's students say he was their favorite math teacher and boys basketball coach.

"I just heard it today,” said Aaron Liscinski. “I was completely shocked. I heard rumors. I didn't want to believe it. He was a great teacher. He's a great guy."

Dunn began working for the Pinellas district in January of 2010. The District says he has no disciplinary actions on his record.
