The cold weather will hang around the Bay area for a couple of days, delivering possible record low temperatures overnight to parts of the Bay area.

Temperatures tonight will drop to the upper 30s to mid-40s around Tampa Bay and into the low 30s in the northern counties. A Freeze Warning has been issued for late Tuesday night through early Wednesday morning for Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties.

According to Bay News 9 Chief Meteorologist Mike Clay, some parts of the Bay area may experience record low temperatures tonight.

“Tampa will drop to near 40, the record low in the morning is 39 set way back in 1894. In St. Petersburg, we are forecasting a low of 48.  The record low is 46 set in 1971," Clay said.

Up north, in Brooksville, the record low is 29 set in 2006, we are forecasting a low of 30. In Polk County, our forecast low is 39 in Winter Haven, the record low is 39 set in 1971. In Citrus Co, the record low at Inverness is 29 set in 2006, our forecast low is 30.  The forecast low in Bradenton is 40, the record low is 40 set in 1979 at the Sarasota/Bradenton Airport.”

Temperatures early Tuesday in Tampa were about 10 to 15 degrees colder than the same time Monday.

Cooler conditions will persist with highs on Thursday in the 60s. By Friday, a warm up begins with highs expected in the 70s.
