The world watched as the Bush family’s belongings were ripped out of their home by a back hoe, hoping they could salvage something. Now some of those same people are pulling together to help the family and victims.

“For the past two days I’ve been hearing stories from customers. So I figured this could be something I could be of help for," said Oasis Store Manager, Dan Mohan.

Mohan manages the Oasis convenience store a few blocks from the home that was ravaged by a sinkhole on Friday.

He says when he found out it was so close and that Jeff Bush lost his life after being swallowed by that sink hole, he knew he had to do something.

So he started collecting donations for the family at the store.

“If you compare it to anywhere, it’s really rare and its right around here so we need to step up,” he said.

And he’s not the only one giving back.

“Our motto at the Fraternal Order of Eagles is people helping people, and when we see a family in our community that’s in trouble we try to bond together,” said Fraternal Order Eagles member, Fran Palek.

So far that bond at the Eagles organization has raised more than $300 for the family.

“It’s not enough but it’s something. It’s a start of something,” Palek said.

Not only is this community raising money for the family, they’re also collecting things like clothing and shoes at the north Brandon Sports complex. Representatives from the park said donations will be accepted Monday through Friday.

“We realized that there was a need for this family they didn’t have socks, they didn’t have underwear, tooth paste. The simple necessitates that we all take for granted” said Palek.

The community is determined to give back to the Bush family.

"Please help, please help because if it was their family they would want help too,” said Seffner resident, Robert Masci.

Representatives from the Red Cross tell us they helped the family the first day of the tragedy but since so many donations are coming in and people are helping out, it’s the community that is making sure this family has a place to stay and what they need.

The Brandon Cowboys youth football and cheerleading is located about a block from the sinkhole at 2807 Kingsway Rd. The board is accepting donations for the next two weeks for the family. Donations can be dropped off Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
