Crews responded to a Tampa gun range Monday to battle a blaze that broke out inside the building.

The fire broke out at Florida Firearms Academy, located at 13317 W. Hillsborough Ave., at about 6:45 p.m.

According to reports, the 5,000-square-foot building was occupied at the time of the fire. Officials said everyone in the building was able to get out safely.

Witnesses told officials that smoke started coming out of the vents, which is when they called 911.  Officials said a second alarm was called due to the size of the building and the conditions.

Officials said the ammunition and weapons inside the building were not involved in the fire.

Firefighters initially had difficulty finding the fire due to low visibility, so a special ventilation truck was brought to the scene to ventilate the building.

Once visibility improved, firefighters were able to find the blaze in the back of the firing range and quickly put it out.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The estimated cost of the damage is put at $400,000.
