Three people died Sunday night in a car accident after police said they had just stolen beer from a nearby convenience store.

On Monday afternoon, detectives identified two of the people who died as Ashley H. Thompson, 33, and Steven E. Cuervo, 41.  The third person who died in the crash was identified late Monday as Tonya Elizabeth Faris, 29.

Police said that the sole survivor of the crash, 41-year-old Kenneth Edward Crouse, is currently under sedation, and so they haven't been able to interview him yet. He remains in St. Joseph's Hospital with critical injuries.

Detectives said they were initially unable to positively identify the victims due to the condition of their bodies.

According to reports, a Jeep SUV with four passengers sped eastbound on Columbus Drive around 8 p.m. while a Toyota truck drove in front of the Jeep.

The Toyota's driver saw the Jeep recklessly approach from behind and moved out of the Jeep's path, the report said.

"He was flying, he was flying. So when he was squealing he was already swerving around other people behind me so then when he got up to me is when he lost control," said Lorenzo Monteagudo, who witnessed the accident.

Police said the Jeep hit a concrete wall at Columbus Drive and Matanzas Avenue. It flipped and rolled several feet into the westbound lane on Columbus Drive.

The driver of the Toyota was not hit or injured.

Witnesses said at least one person was thrown from the vehicle.  None of the occupants were wearing seat belts.
