Strong storms that moved through parts of the Bay area Sunday afternoon and evening have moved out of the area.

Parts of Polk County, near Lake Wales, Highland City, and Lakeland saw heavy rain Sunday afternoon.

Storms were also reported in parts of Pinellas County, from downtown St. Petersburg to the beaches and in Pasco County from New Port Richey to Hudson.

Bradenton received more than two inches of rain.

Bay News 9 Meteorologist Diane Kacmarik said the storms moved northwest at a “little more speed (Sunday).”

A tropical wave came in from the east coast of Florida arrived around the same time the Gulf of Mexico sea breeze generated the usual late-day showers.

Kacmarik said the best chance of storms Monday is in the afternoon.
