The man accused of tricking his girlfriend into taking an abortion pill may soon leave jail.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Anthony Porcelli granted a request to allow suspect John Andrew Welden to bond out of jail before his trial.

Welden will have to post bail, secure it with $250,000 in property, wear a monitoring device and have a private security detail guard him to meet conditions of his release.

Welden faces life in jail if he is convicted of murdering his girlfriend's unborn child.

He also faces a product tampering charge for changing the label on the pill's bottle from Cytotec to Amoxicillin, a popular antibiotic, and persuading his girlfriend to take one.

Another hearing is set for July 1.

The prosecution can appeal Porcelli's decision to U.S. District Judge Richard A. Lazarra.
