Bay News 9 confirmed a tornado touched down near Weedon Island in St. Petersburg on Monday around 8:45 p.m.

Residents in the Riviera Bay area just south of Gandy Boulevard told Bay News 9 they watched a water spout move from the water onto land.

Those same residents showed Bay News 9 the video of the spout turning into a tornado as it made landfall.

Most of the storm's damage was on 87th Avenue North. There, the storm pushed a dock onto a resident's back yard and ripped apart a screened-in area.

Winds also downed tree limbs, with some landing on homes and cars.

Some residents said they heard a 'wooshing' sound or a freight train roaring into the neighborhood.

St. Petersburg emergency crews combed the area to survey damage and clean up of the debris has already started.

Bay News 9 meteorologist Brian McClure says Klystron 9 showed a small amount of rotation near the Weedon Island Preserve.

The most intense area of storms was in the area just west of the Gandy Bridge.

The area surrounding Feather Sound and the Carillon office park area in St. Petersburg also experienced severe weather.
