Plans to clean King's Bay in Citrus County could finally resume.

Plans to use harvesters in the bay had created debate among officials and a manatee protection organization.

According the partner newspaper the Citrus County Chronicle, officials with Save Crystal River Inc., One Rake at a Time and Save the Manatee Club met a week ago to work out a deal to allow the mechanized bay cleanup to resume several months after it was stopped.

Officials said once the agreement is officially signed, cleanup can resume.

According to the Chronicle, Save the Manatee Club had objected to the use of a big harvester to rid the bay of the noxious lyngbya, claiming harm was being done mostly because of the turbidity, or cloudiness, generated by the machine.

The group also alleged dredging because of the manner in which the harvester was being used. The club wanted a monitoring regime instituted.
