Two Pasco County men were arrested Monday after deputies said they stole from a Hudson car wash.

But it wasn't money they went after.

Deputies said Michael Cross, 28, of Hudson and Justin Lebarron, 20, of New Port Richey made off with a half-dozen drainage grates.

According to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, witnesses said they heard a commotion from the bays of the car wash located at Storage World & Car Wash off State Road 52.

As it turned out, investigators said, the two were pulling their pickup truck into each bay and ripping out the custom steel grates valued at $500 each.

Deputies said the duo then headed over to nearby One Steel Recycling, where they attempted to scrap the grates for cash.

Suspicious witnesses there called deputies to the scene.

A short while later, witnesses from the car wash showed up and identified the grates as theirs. Both Cross and Lebarron were arrested.

Cross was charged with grand theft, and Lebarron was charged with possession of a controlled substance and retail theft.
