A Newsome High math teacher was arrested on charges of child pornography possession.
David Valesano Jr., 50, was arrested Thursday morning after detectives searched his Brandon home.
According to reports, four computers and several digital media items were taken from his home. A forensic investigation determined that Valesano had files that depicted children between the approximate ages of 8 and 13 engaged in sexual activities, deputies said.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said they first spotted Valesano downloading the images while they were performing routine checks of known sources of child pornography on the Internet.
According to our partner paper, the Tampa Bay Times, school officials said they do not believe any of the porn downloads happened at the school or that the case directly affects any students.
The district will recommend Valesano be suspended without pay until the criminal charges are resolved.
Valesano has been charged with 20 counts of possession of child pornography. He was taken to Hillsborough County Jail, where he is being held on $150,000 bond.
