Some big changes are ahead for Manatee County’s newspaper.

The Bradenton Herald is moving from their longtime building on West Manatee Avenue to a new smaller location in downtown Bradenton.

The Herald has called their current location home since 1984.

The 87,000 square foot building, located at 102 Manatee Avenue West, has produced thousands of papers over the years.

Bob Turner, the President and Publisher of the paper said it’s time for a change. He and others there, are now packing up and getting ready to move.

The paper’s new home will be inside a 15,000 square foot space in the downtown area, located at 1111 3rd Avenue West.

Turner said they decided to go to a much smaller location because of space.

“The building was built with production in mind and over half of our building was for production processes," he said. "Now we have outsourced all of our production, so we have so much space in the building that we really don’t need.”

Turner said they're currently only using around 25-to 30-percent of their current building. He said it's not cost effective to stay there.

In addition to a new location, the paper plans on updating their on-line services to go along with their more updated modern newspaper.

"Readers can see more updates on the web," said Turner. "They can see sharper reporting on the web, and stories getting online faster. I think it will enhance entire reporting both in print and online.”

The Bradenton Herald hopes to be moved into their new location by sometime in September.

The Bradenton Herald is currently selling items from the current location to employees internally. They may ask the public to come and purchase some items in the future

All proceeds will be donated to the United Way.

Bay News 9 is told a new medical complex will be built on the property where the old Bradenton Herald building currently sits.
