The Tampa man accused of tricking his ex-girlfriend into taking an abortion-causing pill is out of jail.

John Andrew Welden left the Hillsborough County jail Friday morning to wait for his trial under house arrest.

Welden's father and stepmother secured his bail by using their mortgage-free home as collateral.

They also must pay for two security officers to provide 24-hour surveillance on Welden.

He must also remain at the home of his father, a Lutz fertility doctor.

On June 25, a judge had ruled he could bond out of jail before his trial. The State Attorney's Office decided not to fight the ruling.

Welden, 28, faces the possibility of life in prison if he is convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend's unborn child.

Prosecutors also charged him with product tampering, saying he changed the label on the pill's bottle and convinced his girlfriend to take one.

The pill was Cytotec, but Weldon allegedly told Remee Jo Lee, 27, it was the popular antibiotic Amoxicillin.

She was almost seven weeks pregnant when she suffered the miscarriage.

A crowd of reporters surrounded Welden as he left the federal courthouse in downtown Tampa and entered a black Hummer SUV.

Welden must also wear a GPS tracking device on his ankle until the trial.

The private security detail will use state-of-the art security equipment to keep tabs on him and every visitor.

There is no trial date set.

So far, Lee has had no comment.
