The family of the Tampa woman who was killed and dumped in a Georgia river is speaking out.

Kenneth Murrow said the man who he called a friend and often invited into his mother’s Tampa home, is now behind bars for her murder.

“I don’t understand how you can be so heartless and ruthless. That’s a dirty thing he did. That was a brutal murder. I don’t know how you could do that to somebody,” Murrow said.

Authorities say 25-year-old semi-pro football player Joshua Helton, shot and killed 64-year-old Judy Murrow, then dumped her body in a river near Telfair County, Georgia. A Fisherman discovered her body on July 4th.

“He just dumped her in the river like a bag of garbage; like she wasn’t nothing,” Murrow said.

The victim’s truck was also found in the area and investigators say it’s considered a crime scene.

Now family members and investigators in Florida and Georgia are trying to figure out what led up to the senseless murder.

“Somewhere along the line he shot her, just killed her brutally. He killed her for no reason. She had no money,” Murrow said.

Helton is being held at the Hillsborough County Jail with no bond.
