Dozens of homeowners from the East Lake community east of Tampa protested before a Hillsborough County Commission public hearing on Wednesday.

They held up signs outside the county building as commissioners debated a franchise agreement extension for Pluris Water LLC.

Pluris Water supplies drinking water for about 900 residents of East Lake.

Pluris Water customers have voiced concerns for the past year that their water bills are more than double compared to city of Tampa residents.

They also argued today, the quality of their water is substandard.

Commissioners voted to delay their vote concerning an extension of the counties contract for Pluris.

The county will now work to determine what options, if any, may be available, including taking over water service for east lake residents.
