He was "trying to get the devil out of her," so, deputies say, 54-year-old David Benes attempted to perform an exorcism on his 80-year-old girlfriend.

They say Benes first took the batteries out of the phones in the Holiday house the two share, then hid the car keys and disabled the garage door so the elderly woman couldn't call for help or get away.

Next, deputies say, Benes held the woman down forcefully by the arms, leaving behind bruises and scratches.

After a long struggle, deputies say, the woman fell asleep, only to wake up the next morning to Benes restraining her once again.

Eventually, she was able to get away and call for help.

Deputies say that when they got the home on the 2600 block of Albion Street, they found Benes passed out on the couch. They say he was too intoxicated to talk, but later told them he had been too drunk to remember what had happened the night before.

The woman said Benes held her down because he was trying to "exorcise her and get the devil out of her," deputies say.

Benes was arrested Tuesday and charged with domestic battery of a person over 65 and false imprisonment.
