The adoptive mother of Winter the Dolphin has died.

Officials at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium said Panama, an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin, died today.

Panama came to the aquarium in 2001 when she was approximately 25 years old. She was rescued near Panama City after she lost a calf, and she was suffering from an infection and anemia when she was rescued.

She was the oldest dolphin at the aquarium.

Dolphins in the wild normally live to their late 20s.
