Florida Gov. Rick Scott has officially endorsed Mayor Bill Foster in his re-election campaign for St. Petersburg top elective office.

"Bill Foster has done a great job," said Governor Scott, according to partner newspaper the Tampa Bay Times. The Governor then said he supported Foster's re-election.

Challenger Rick Kriseman said the nod seems appropriate. And not for good reasons, Kriseman said.

Kriseman, who garnered 39 percent of the mayoral primary vote in August to Foster's 41 percent, said the governor, as well as Foster, have not lived up to campaign promises.

"It’s appropriate that Rick Scott would endorse Bill Foster as both politicians have failed to fulfill campaign promises and have passed or proposed harmful policies," Kriseman said in a statement. "Neither has proposed a positive vision for creating a better tomorrow.

"And while Rick Scott is about the only major public official in the state who is supporting Bill Foster, I am proud to have Democratic and Republican leaders backing my campaign. That says it all. It's time for a strong mayor with a plan to resolve the pier, the Rays, and create jobs. We can and we will do better."

The general election is Nov. 5.
