A driver and 60 high school students safely exited a Hillsborough County public school bus before it caught fire Monday morning, authorities said.

The bus, en route to Spoto High School, made a regular stop on southbound U.S. 301 at Windermere Lake Drive around 7 a.m.

A student reported smelling smoke, and the driver immediately ordered all of the students off the bus, authorities said.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene and extinguished a fire in the engine compartment. The students were transferred to another bus and taken to school.

No injuries were reported.
