Danny Burgess is running as a Republican for the District 38 seat in the Florida House of Representatives.

1. Why are you running for this office?

I am an East Pasco native, new dad, husband, soldier in the US Army Reserve, and former Mayor and City Councilman in Zephyrhills with a long history of serving our district. I was born and raised in Zephyrhills and attended East Pasco County public schools.  I understand firsthand how the decisions made in Tallahassee impact East Pasco. For me, this is not just a district—this is my home. I have a vested personal interest in this community, and believe we deserve a representative who is directly affected by the decisions they make for their district.

With a growing family, the decision to run for this position was very prayerfully made. For me, public service is not a career path; it is a chance to be the positive change I want to see in the world.

2. Why do you think you are the best qualified candidate for the office?

It is my firm belief that my political experience, work ethic, military service and proven commitment to the public welfare of this community makes me the most qualified candidate for House District 38. There is a strong connection between my experience as a soldier, public servant, and advocate, which I believe will bring a fresh perspective to Tallahassee, if given that opportunity.

In my tenure as a local elected official, both as a City Councilman and Mayor, I have proven my ability to make tough decisions that directly affect my neighbors. I have a history of maintaining fiscal responsibility while promoting responsible economic growth. I understand the importance of local autonomy and that government works best when it is closest to the people it serves.

Serving on both the Pasco Economic Development Council and the Zephyrhills Economic Development Coalition run by the Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce, I have been exposed to the benefits of local efforts to promote economic development.

3. If you are elected, what will be your top priorities?

If elected, my top three priorities in the Florida Legislature would be:

  1. Working to create a friendly regulatory environment that promotes economic development and a freer market that is competitive across the country and the globe
  2. Creating an infrastructure network that is capable of handling future growth and the demands of both growing communities and business opportunities (i.e. roads, ports, airports, water supply, etc.)
  3. Enhancing our schools for a better-educated workforce
  4. Fighting for the repeal and refund of the Nuclear Cost Recovery Fee
