Wayne Dukes is running as a Republican for the District 2 seat on the Hernando County Commission.

1. Why are you running for this office?

As a Hernando County native, proud veteran, and your current commissioner, I take public service serious and I would consider it my privilege to continue serving the people of Hernando County.  Moving forward, I will continue to follow the current Hernando County Strategic Plan that was updated in 2013.

2. Why do you think you are the best qualified candidate for the office?

I am the most qualified candidate because I have the experience and educational and professional background for this position and a proven conservative track record providing creative solutions to County problems without increasing the tax burden on the citizens.

3. If you are elected, what will be your top priorities?

Some of the top priorities will be to continue working with economic development bringing in new jobs to the County and retaining existing businesses in Hernando County therefore increasing and diversifying the tax base for a stronger Hernando County.

As your Commissioner, I have represented Hernando County to the 23 County Gulf Coast Consortium for the BP Spill Mediation since October 2012 and am actively involved in decisions and direction of this consortium.

I am also the County representative to the Tampa Bay Advanced Manufacturing Skills Initiative which will offer an apprenticeship program to high school students and adults training our young people and adults new skills for better paying jobs.

As a former member and current Hernando County liaison to the Hernando County Port Authority, I have helped develop and Artificial Reef Program for our Gulf waters.  These new reefs will enhance the recreational enjoyment for residents and visitors of Hernando County as well as improve the environment by providing additional fish and wildlife habitat.

These are just some of the programs that I took on because I care about our County and the quality of of life for our citizens.  I will continue to strive making every day a better day in Hernando County.
