The Florida Institute of Oceanography will host a town hall meeting Thursday, Oct. 30, to gather public feedback on a newly funded RESTORE Act program, the Florida Centers of Excellence Research Grants Program.

The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Madeira Beach City Hall Auditorium, 300 Municipal Dr.

FIO has been designated by Congress as a Center of Excellence in the ongoing research of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. Its staff will describe proposed rules, policies and priorities for science and technology projects to be funded by program grants. Public comments and surveys will be used to revise the program strategy and meet U.S. Treasury Department mandates for public engagement.

For details on the RESTORE Act, draft rules and policies, and the survey tool, visit FIO’s web site: http://www.fio.usf.edu/research/restore-act.

The Florida Institute of Oceanography is a consortium of 29 public and private academic institutions, research laboratories and agencies from across the state Florida who work to maximize marine research and education resources. FIO is hosted by the University of South Florida at the College of Marine Science in St. Petersburg.
