A Palmetto man who told deputies he was flagged down by a woman on I-75 and robbed has been charged with filing a false police report.

There was a theft the morning of Sept. 21, all right, but not the one described, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said Saturday.

Adam Pulse, 20, originally claimed he was driving home from work when a woman waved at him for help. He said that when he pulled over and approached the woman, she told him her husband had passed out while at the wheel of their vehicle and needed help.

Pulse further said that when he went to check on the husband, the husband pulled out a gun and robbed him of his wallet and cell phone.

But deputies say they investigated and found surveillance video that showed Pulse was at his workplace with another person at the time he claimed he was being robbed on I-75.

Pulse claims that the Manatee County Sheriff’s Department does not want to find the people who robbed him a few weeks ago, so now they are making up a story about him.

“I didn’t do anything wrong," Pulse said. "I am the victim in the case and I don’t understand why they are trying to spin it around.”

When confronted, a sheriff's office report says, Pulse admitted to picking up a prostitute near 1700 Canal Road and taking her back to his workplace.

"He had placed his wallet and work phone in the center console of the truck they were in," the report says. "After spending 10 minutes together, out of the camera’s view, Adam started to drive his companion home when he realized he was missing his wallet and work phone.

"Adam is seen on video looking through the vehicle for the items and arguing with the companion. They leave and Adam returns alone a short time later. He looks through the vehicle some more and then walks home, where he calls his employer first and then (the sheriff's office)."

According to deputies, Pulse said he invented the I-75 robbery story because he was afraid of losing his job and his girlfriend, who is the mother of his child.

Pulse however, says he’s telling the truth.

“It is the truth and they are saying that details don’t match up, so maybe details don’t match up, but the story is the truth thats the point,” said Pulse.

"He did not appear phased that he may have cause some public panic because of the media coverage (of the alleged I-75 robbery," the sheriff's office report said.

The sheriff's department says that there is enough evidence from the surveillance video to know Adam is lying.
