A driver who died after colliding head-on with an ambulance while traveling the wrong way on Interstate 275 in August had a blood alcohol content level of 0.21 and cocaine in his system, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Florida’s legal limit is .08.

Edward Jose Duran, 23, was killed when he crashed into an ambulance after entering I-275 from I-4 going north in the southbound span in the early morning hours of August 15th.

Since February, 11 people have died in five crashes caused by wrong-way drivers along Tampa area highways.

The Department of Transportation is installing flashing signs on exit ramps along Interstate 275 in Tampa to help reverse the dangerous trend.
