Manatee County officials are asking downtown Bradenton drivers to use caution and to have patience while access to some local roads limited or blocked during installation of a new downtown chiller.

Through the end of November, the intersection of 10th Street W and Fourth Avenue will be closed, and downtown traffic will be diverted by signs and flagmen. Construction will require partial road closures through mid-January, but one lane will remain open during future phases of the project.

Commissioners approved the chiller in May. It will result in more than $10 million in energy savings over its first 20 years.

The project includes a new downtown chiller plant, upgraded lighting systems and a new centralized Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning control system for the County. Officials said the Energy Savings Company will reduce the County’s water consumption, lower its carbon footprint and eliminate the need for more expensive air handling units.
