The city of Bartow has changed its sign code to allow residents to keep signs in their yards.

According to The Ledger of Lakeland, residents can have up to three signs and they must be at least five feet from the city's right of way. Signs such as the "God Bless America" placards that popped up in yards last year can remain.

There was an uproar last year when city code enforcement officers began telling residents their "God Bless America" signs had to be removed because they violated the city's code prohibiting temporary signs.

The revisions to the ordinance are now law.
