A new search is underway for a missing pilot after transmission believed to be from an emergency locator was picked up.

Crews from the Civil Air Patrol along with the Hernando County Sheriff's Office are searching for Ted Weiss.

The search is happening just west of US 19 in the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge, located approximately 65 miles north of St. Petersburg.

Search crews slowly and carefully went through the Withlacoochee State Forest in Citrus County last week.

Piloting an experimental type aircraft, Weiss flew out of Marion County Municipal Airport in Dunnellon on the afternoon of April 5 and never reached his presumed destination, Zephyrhills Municipal Airport.

He was reported missing by friends April 7.
