The rain has moved out of the Bay area and has been replaced by cooler air.

This afternoon's sunshine also created a sun halo today. Bay News 9 Meteorologist Josh Linker said it is an optical phenomenon produced by ice crystals.

“We saw someone just taking photos in the sky. We immediately started looking up. That’s when we noticed the weird sun halo thing,” said Nathaniel Simpson.

A few beachgoers thought it might be the reflection from the bay.

“It was strange, never seen anything. We were Googling, trying to figure out what was going on,” said Amy Farley.

If you think it looks like a rainbow, you're not far off.

“It’s an optical phenomenon from sunlight passing through ice crystals,” said Linker. “It’s similar to a rainbow, but a rainbow is sunlight passing through water droplets.”

Sun halos aren't uncommon but judging by how many viewer photos you sent Bay News 9, it's something many have never seen before.

And if you caught a glimpse, savor it because they never happen during the summer. You'll likely have to wait many more months to capture Mother Nature's show again.

It will be mostly cloudy Wednesday night, with a chance of isolated showers.

The rain chances will pick up during the rest of the week with a 50 percent rain chance Thursday and an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday.

Looking further ahead, though, the forecast for the weekend looks drier, with a chance of a few storms on Saturday then a dry Easter.

Saturday and Sunday will have highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and partly to mostly sunny skies, according to the Bay News 9 weather team.
