Efforts continue to remove an invasive algae from Kings Bay in Citrus County.

Last week, workers raked 28 tons of Lyngbya algae out of Kings Bay, according to our partners at the Citrus County Chronicle.  The Chronicle said the cleanup allowed two small springs vents to open up and flow again in Kings Bay.

On Saturday, volunteers are asked to come out again to get the swimming area cleaned up before summer. The cleanup is scheduled for 8-10 a.m. at Hunter Springs Park in Crystal River.

Prospective volunteers are asked to wear water shoes or old sneakers that can get wet, gloves, hats and sunglasses.
