An elephant that caused a big splash in Redington Beach last weekend is now making more waves.

The elephant was spotted in the Gulf of Mexico off Redington Beach last Saturday. The pachyderm had been hired as part of a woman's birthday party.

Now, according to our partners at the Tampa Bay Times, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has filed several complaints about the event. The animal rights group wants to know if the trainer kept the public far away from the elephant during its appearance.

The complaints were filed with both the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
