A Tampa man convicted of killing his 16-month-old son was sentenced to 40 years in prison Friday.

Earlier this year, a jury found Dwayne Poole guilty of manslaughter and aggravated child battery in the 2011 death of his son, Roderique Anderson. He had originally be charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators said Poole threw the boy on a bed as punishment for playing near an electrical socket. Ronderique hit his head and suffered a skull fracture.

The boy died after four days on life support.
