Monday's early-morning fire at a day labor employment office is being investigated as an arson.

Firefighters responded to a fire the business early Monday in the Town 'n Country area of Tampa. Crews with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded just after 4 a.m. to a fire at the Labor Finders employment office at 7511 Winchester Drive.

Multiple units responded to the scene and firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control. Heavy smoke and flames were seen coming from the front of the building when crews arrived. Officials said the front of the building was damaged but it is not a total loss.

There was no one in the building at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue officials are investigating.

Meanwhile, about 100 day laborers will have to look elsewhere for work today.

A majority of the workers who report to Labor Finders' Town 'n Country office normally work day jobs in the Port of Tampa.

"A lot of guys work out of here, living day to day," said Keith McCormick, one of the workers that usually reports to the employment office every day. "They depend on this place to get paid everyday so it's a real blow to us."
