Just days after losing her husband in an accident, Cherie Wren said she’s finding it hard to grieve.
“In a couple of weeks I will have my time to grieve,” she said. “Right now it’s important to stay strong for the family.”
Wren is trying to stay strong as detectives work to find the person who took her husband of 26-years away from her.
On Saturday morning, Bill Wren, 71, went out for a ride on his motorcycle and never returned home.
As he was stopped at the intersection of Bee Ridge Road and Lockwood Ridge Road in Sarasota, a car came up from behind and slammed into his bike.
The car then dragged Wren’s motorcycle for about 250-feet. The driver never stopped. Wren was killed instantly.
His wife said if it was an accident she’d understand. But what she can’t understand it how someone could just drive away.
“I’m not angry at this person, but disappointed that they felt the need to escape it,” said Cherie.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the suspect was driving a 1990 to 2000 silver or grey Honda Accord. Investigators said it most likely has damage on the front.
“Every car that passes me that’s a silver Honda I look at it,” said Wren’s daughter, Tami Tovar. “I know that’s gonna happen until this person is caught.”
Tovar said she’s devastated over the loss of her father. She said until they find the person responsible, she won’t be able to rest.
“I just want whoever it is, a woman, a man, a kid, whatever, to come forward,” said Tovar.
The family is reaching out to the community in hopes that someone knows something and will do the right thing.
“This person is going to have to live the rest of their life, however long that may be, knowing that they killed a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, a brother-in-law, and most of all a friend to everyone,” said Cherie.
She also said she’s hoping this serves as a reminder for people to pay closer attention to motorcycles on the road.
