Debra Wright is running for the District 6 seat on the Polk County School Board.

1. Why am I running for this office?

I am seeking re-election because I feel that I have more work to do. I am willing to serve, and give back to the community that birthed me. “ Service is the price I am willing to pay for living.”

2. Why am I the best-qualified candidate?

I have served the past four years faithfully, committed and relentlessly. I do not have any other obligations other than life and I spend most of my time working on the work of this assignment. My passion for Education is driven by over 40 years experience from Secretary – District Office. I have taught Headstart – College level courses so I fully understand the entire plan.

I am the highest degree holding board member presently. I have an Ed.S and continue my skills through taking workshops given to classroom teachers so I understand what is expected of them. I have acquired School Board Member Certification and continue to work on my skills to effectively serve as a public servant.

3. If you are elected, what will be your top priorities?

If I am elected my top priority is to support the acquisition of the Polk County Schools moving their current District grade forward. That means improving academics across the district.

This means we will continue to work on classroom support in these areas:

  • Fueling classrooms with the necessary tools to get the job done.
  • Supporting and maintaining safe and orderly classrooms.
  • Communicating with the stakeholders about our status, changes, and progress even if we have to use non-traditional ways to strengthen home-school relations.
  • Continue to advocate for all students and staff!
