Susan Duval is running for the District 5 seat on the Hernando County School Board.

1. Why are you running for this office? & 2. Why do you think you are the best qualified candidate for the office?

I am running for the school board seat primarily to continue my service on behalf of the students, staff and parents of Hernando County. I have a deep belief in the educational value of providing a path of opportunity for all students.

In June, I retired from the school system after 42 years of service. The qualifications that I have as a candidate helped guide me in making the decision to run for the school board.

I am able to present to all voters in Hernando County my experience of providing successful leadership, collaborative problem solving skills and the ability to utilize data and research in the decision making process.

3. If you are elected, what will be your top priorities?

My top priorities are:

  • helping the board ensure financial stability for the school district not only now, but for the years to come;
  • providing proven educational programs/classes for academic growth for all students;
  • ensuring that all students have access to quality vocational, fine arts, physical education, world language programs/classes;
  • providing the means by which I, as a board member, would be personally and easily accessible to meet with all students, staff and parents on a regular basis.
