Asher Edelson is running for the District 6 seat on the Hillsborough County School Board.

1. Why are you running for this office?

I am running for school board because I want to fight for issues that are overlooked and important to our community.

Student nutrition affects productivity in the classroom, and this must be a priority for at least one school board member.

2. Why do you think you are the best qualified candidate for the office?

Education is an institution which serves parents, teachers, and students. Therefore I believe that parents, teachers, and students should all serve on local school boards to ensure that no issues are overlooked.

I went to Hillsborough County Public Schools as a student (Dale Mabry, Coleman, and H.B. Plant). I understand the issues that actually affect students in public school.

As a high school student I was an active board member on the Student Advisory Committee and helped to foster unity within my school.

I am qualified to serve this office because I understand what decisions need to be made to best impact parents, teachers, and students.

3. If you are elected, what will be your top priorities?

My first priority will be to improve the quality of nutrition in public schools. Cafeteria food should be locally sourced and free of additives and hormones which are detrimental to student health and well being.

I want to opt Hillsborough County out the state standardized tests to ensure teachers the time to prepare their respective curricula.

I also want to pass common sense polices to impact parental involvement and security. Parent-teacher conferences need to be held at times that better accommodate parent work schedules and all district personnel should be required to call 9-11 in case of emergency.
