H. Dean Morrison is running for the District 1 seat on the Citrus County School Board.

1. Why are you running for this office?

I am running for school board for the simple reason that I have qualification that far exceed the incumbent and I am discouraged by what I perceive as a loss of professionalism over the last year.

The current chairman dominates the conversation and little is heard from most of the members. It appears to me that he is running a bully pulpit.

  • I have a college degree. As do all of the other board members, except the chairman, my opponent.  (BS Criminal Justice, minor in psychology// 18 post graduate credits in education// Attended Rutgers Summer School, Northwestern University, and graduated from the College of New Jersey)
  • I have certifications as do all of the other board members except the chairman, my opponent.  (Florida Teaching Certification, Middle Grades Integrated Curriculum, Social Studies 6-12, Exceptional Student Education Certification, Reading Instruction Endorsement.)
  • This is my 9th year in Citrus County Schools preforming a variety of assignments.

2. Why do you think you are the best qualified candidate for the office?

I am the best candidate for this position because I far overwhelm the incumbent in educational certification, qualifications, and experience.

I am well aware of the limitations of a school board and desire to bring harmony to the board. I want to be the voice of a committee, not an individual stand out.

3. If you are elected, what will be your top priorities?

Citrus County Schools have many problems. The ability to expand to reach all students is probably our biggest challenge. Our A/B students will continue to do well under the guidance of a highly qualified teaching staff.

Many middle of the road students are graduating with little hope of securing a good job, a job that provides dignity, self respect and hope of being a successful contributor to society.

We need to make partnerships between our students and industries to help graduates find successful career paths.

As our school enrollment continues to dwindle, so does our funding. This is a challenge.

Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself. I would like to add that I have been endorsed by the Citrus County Education Association.
