A 22-year-old man was arrested after police said he crashed into a Lake Wales restaurant, injuring a 95-year-old woman celebrating her birthday and her 81-year-old husband.

According to Lake Wales police, witnesses told officers the driver of a Jeep Liberty, later identified as Conor Sullivan, was traveling eastbound on SR 60 and lost control of the vehicle.

The Jeep left the roadway, drove through the parking lot of L’Incontro Restaurant, and through the front wall of the restaurant.

Genevieve Sheldon and her husband Carl were seated inside the restaurant near the wall Sullivan crashed through, police said. They both were injured and transported to Lakeland Regional Hospital.

After crashing into the restaurant, police said Sullivan exited the vehicle and fled on foot eastbound on SR 60. Officers located Sullivan on Domaris Ave between McGee Tires and Citizen’s Bank. During this encounter, police said Sullivan resisted arrest but was taken into custody.

Sullivan was identified by witnesses as the driver of the vehicle. Sullivan sustained non-life threatening injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to Lake Wales Medical Center for treatment.

At this point in the investigation Sullivan is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injuries, driving while license is suspended or revoked, and resisting arrest. Police said additional charges may be forthcoming.
